General Guidelines for Grading in my classroom.
Parents- Please read.

*** You will be able to access your child's grades as often as you'd like. However, I will inform the students in class when I have entered many grades and when HAC will give you the most accurate evaluation of the student.

*** Also, If a student is absent, and I record a grade on HAC, then it will go down as an i (incomplete)until I receive the completed assignment and have had time to grade it. This i will be averaged in as a zero until the assignment is complete and graded.  If you are concerned with a grade, please just email me, and I will respond. Often, it is just a matter of me getting caught up on Absent and late work. These are the last assignments that I grade. My goal is to have grades accurate and up to date each week. I am not a daily grader. If there is a blank, do not fear! This means, I got distracted or just have not had time to record a grade yet.  You should be concerned with Incompletes (i)

*** I do accept Late Work,  However, the late work should be completed in a reasonable amount of time . If the late work is extremely late, or if I have had to put forth effort to retrieve it from the student, points will be deducted up to 50% of the grade. In other words, all late assignments will receive at least a 50% but if turned in without a reminder or shortly after it was due, the student could receive up to full credit for the assignment.

RETAKES- Sometimes, I will offer a retake on a quiz or test if I believe that a student sincerely will work towards a better grade. For this to be possible, a student must have ALL Formative(Homework) work turned in, a parent signature and proof of effort to improve the grade. This can be done with the RETAKE/RETEST form found in my room.

Formative vs. Interim grades??

Formative is an assignment or assessment that occurs while the learning is still taking place.  A formative assessment/grade inFORMS the teacher, student and parents if a student is understanding a concept as it is being taught and learned. It informs a teacher changes in instruction need to happen, informs a student if they need to focus more, study more or change their learning strategies at school or at home.  Effort is key here.

Interim Assessments will come in the form of projects, quizzes and tests.  Interim assessments literally "sum" up the learning. The learning should have happened by this time. Of course, we know that not all students learn at the same rate. Because of this, there might be some retakes offered for the interim assessments. If so, the student must have all formative and participation assignments turned in, because those were methods of learning. He/She must also show proof of re-learning the concepts and have a parent signature.

Retaking of tests should NOT be an Every test occurrence. Students should be studying the first time and learning to perform the first time a test is given. Retakes need to be taken seriously and appropriately. Students must retake a Summative assessment within a week of the original test. This could occur during  homeroom or sometimes after school.

Grades for Science, Math, and Social Studies-

Grades will include the following subgroups:

Tests/Quizzes!/Interim (80% of grade)  This is a school policy. If you have concerns or questions,
Formative (20% of grade)
